Hello, Hypixel community! I have decided to start a sort of weekly series of posts concerning the early game, so for those of you who are end game players, do not concern yourself with this post. This is intended to help absolute beginners adapt to SkyBlock and learn how to start playing from scratch. All of the posts in this series will be based on the videos on my YouTube channel, so if you're more of a video learner, watch the video at the end of the post. I hope y'all will enjoy this series! In this post, we'll go through the basics of the Mining skill; from mining your first coal ore to creating the mining minions that you will be using for a long time in your world. This is part one, going from the Coal Mine to the third layer of the Deep Caverns. In the next one, we'll go over the rest of the Deep Caverns. Today we will be looking into mining. We will start at the back of the hub at the Coal Mine, which appears to be a giant stone mound to the left of the Farm. Near the Coal Mine is the Blacksmith, who allows you to reforge any item for ten pieces of coal. You can collect that in the Coal Mine, and once you’ve done that, you can reforge either a weapon, a piece of armor, or a talisman, which we will be talking about later. Now that you’ve done that, assuming you have mining skill level 1, you can head to the Gold Mine by traveling to the back of the Coal Mine.
Once you get there, head to the building in front of you, and talk to the Lazy Miner, who tells you that he lost his pickaxe, and he asks you to retrieve it. You can find it in the depths of the Gold Mine at -19/24/-306. The pickaxe you get is made of iron and has an enchantment native to Hypixel SkyBlock known as Smelting Touch. This enchantment will automatically smelt items that you mine. So if you were to mine iron ore with a smelting touch pickaxe, you would get an iron ingot. It goes the same way for gold. It’ll also smelt cobblestone into stone, but that isn’t important right now.
Now that you’ve found the pickaxe, you don’t need to return it to the Lazy Miner. You can keep it. Your objective is now to collect iron and gold, and once you’ve done that, you’re prompted to talk to Rusty the Janitor who is near the Lazy Miner. He will enchant any item with another special enchantment known as Telekinesis, which makes resources go directly into your inventory. Now your objective is to reach Mining level 5, and I would do that while collecting enough iron and gold for iron and gold minions.
Once you’re Mining 5, you are prompted to head to the Deep Caverns through the portal at the back of the Gold Mine. Once you arrive, you need to enter the giant mine in front of you, and you will find yourself in the Gunpowder Mines, which looks similar to the Gold Mine except it has Creepers. Your objective becomes to talk to the Lift Operator (on the right of the mines at 43/150/16), who says that once you’ve reached each section of the mine, he can transport you between them. To find the next part of the mine, you need to head to the left side of the Gunpowder Mine, where you will find a cavern heading downwards which leads to the Lapis Quarry, where you can mine lapis.
However, the Lapis Quarry has inhabitants with hostile intentions known as Lapis Zombies. They do about 50 points of damage a hit with no defense. They drop rotten flesh most of the time, but they can also drop Lapis Armor, which is one of the best early game sets, and Lapis Crystals, which I will explain in the post on Talismans and Reforging. Each piece of the lapis armor gives you some defense and 50% more experience when mining. If you have the full set, your health is increased by 60.
Now that you’re in the Lapis Quarry, you’re prompted to mine lapis, and after that, your objective becomes to reach the Pigmen’s Den, where you can mine Redstone and anger Pigmen. Fun! To get there from the entrance to the Lapis Quarry, head to your right, and once you enter a sizeable room, turn right again, and then you should see another cavern heading downward on your left. Yes, it’s confusing, which is why I prefer to use this method; use the Lift Operator to get to the Lapis Quarry from the Gunpowder Mines and head straight. The next ones aren’t as easy though. Once you reach the Pigmen’s Den, you are asked to mine Redstone. Now that that’s done, I recommend mining Lapis and Redstone in the cavern between the Lapis Quarry and the Pigmen’s Den until you have enough for the minions. The Pigmen in the Pigmen’s Den mostly just drop rotten flesh, but they also drop Gold Nuggets. They deal 50% more damage than the Lapis Zombies, so watch out.
