Should you put cascade pods in the bottom of the dishwasher?
Detergent pods should go in the main detergent compartment for any type of cycle. This can help prevent detergent from dissolving too early in the cycle by delaying when it comes into contact with water.
Unless your dishwasher has a spot specifically labeled for detergent pods, they should not be going in the detergent dispensing compartment. Instead, place them in the body of the machine, either at the bottom of the dishwasher or in the preferred spot — the silverware caddy.
Every Cascade ActionPac is designed to dissolve quickly in your dishwasher, and is septic-safe. Just pop an ActionPac into your detergent compartment, start the cycle, and the job is as good as done!
Your Water Isn't Hot Enough
If the water isn't heating up to the right temperature, the grime on your dishes won't be cleaned, and the tablet won't dissolve. For dishwashers that don't have a built-in thermometer, collect some of the water from the washer and test the temp yourself.
And in our tests, the best-performing pods clean better than the best liquids. Another plus is that pods, which come in single-use, premeasured units, are less likely to lead to filming on dishes, says Lindsay Jones, the new-product brand manager at the home appliance maker Maytag.
Dishwasher pods can potentially clog drains if they are not used or disposed of properly. The plastic film that surrounds the detergent can become separated from the detergent during the wash cycle and can become lodged in the dishwasher's filter or in the drain pipes.
The dispenser door is blocked or broken.
Try to ensure you aren't overloading your dishwasher and check the dispenser for damage. Open the main door about 2 minutes into the cycle to check if the dispenser is releasing the tablet without issue.
Unless your manual tells you where to place your dishwasher pods, the best move is to put them in your dispenser. Although some believe that throwing a pod in the dishwasher protects your dispenser, pods are designed to dissolve when they touch water and may not work if not properly dispersed via the dispenser.
Tablets and pods aren't perfect
These don't improve cleaning performance but do add to the number of chemicals going down the drain. Unlike powder and gel, tablets and gel packs may be coated with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). This dissolves in water, releasing the detergent, but also releases PVA into the wastewater.
It's typically best to place pods in the main detergent compartment—or designated pod detergent compartment if applicable—to prevent them from dissolving before the wash cycle begins and the detergent compartment opens.
Can you put cascade pods directly in washing machine?
No, you cannot use liquid dishwasher detergent as laundry detergent. The chemicals in the dishwasher pod are designed for a different use, including breaking down grease and food, and the dish detergent produces more bubbles. 1 This is a combination that can damage your washing machine.
At a minimum, though, clean your dishwasher once a month—and the simplest way to check that chore off your list is with Cascade Platinum Dishwasher Cleaner. Running the dishwasher in an empty wash cycle with just one single-dose pac gives you a clean machine!
Cascade Platinum ActionPacs™ + Dishwasher Cleaner Action dishwasher detergent cleans burnt-on foods in just one cycle without prewashing. Meanwhile, it's also keeping your dishwasher sparkling clean! And with the grease-fighting power of Dawn, you're still giving your dishes a superior clean.
The downside is that most PVA does not break down and disappear. Instead, these manmade materials change into smaller micro-bits of plastic that you can't see. They are so small that they wash down the drain. Then the particles wind up in our environment, contributing to plastic pollution.
Yes. Laundry and dishwasher pods and sheets are made with or wrapped in petroleum-based plastic called polyvinyl alcohol, also referred to as PVA or PVOH. This plastic is designed to dissolve, but it doesn't disappear. Pods are plastic.
If you have a dishwasher leaving residue on clean dishes, it's probably hard water. It's one of the leading causes of white, cloudy film on your dishes and glasses.
The takeaway
If you want dishwasher soap that will do the hard work for you and produce pans free of baked-on food and silverware that shines, either the Cascade Platinum ActionPac Pods or Cascade Gel with Dawn will get the job done.
If you're looking for the best dishwasher detergent for hard water, Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Packs are an excellent choice. Each pack contains two powerful formulas that help reduce spots and film on dishes, glasses, and cutlery—leaving them sparkling clean each and every wash.
A: The Cascade Platinum is designed to give you the best clean for your dishes while also keeping your dishwasher clean and eliminating the need for a rinse aid. Cascade Complete will still get you a great clean, however we'd recommend using with Cascade Rinse Aid and Dishwasher Cleaner.
If the tablet has been placed in the tub or cutlery basket, it will dissolve in the prewash. It may then not wash effectively during the wash cycle due to the lack of detergent. This is because the compartment is designed to release the tablet under the effect of heat during the hot wash.
What opens the detergent door in a dishwasher?
Many dispenser doors are hinged on a pin with a quick-release spring. If the pin is bent or the spring is damaged, the door won't open. As with a dispenser door, the pin and spring or dispenser assembly should be replaced if there is damage.
The spray arms have tiny holes which spray water onto the dishes during a cycle. The spray arm holes can become clogged with food debris, which could be preventing the dishwasher pods from getting enough water to dissolve. If a spray arm appears dirty or clogged, remove it and clean it with warm water and dish soap.
There could be various reasons for dishwasher soap not dissolving, including a broken soap dispenser door, a clogged or broken drain pump, a malfunctioning sprayer arm, or a faulty water inlet valve.
If you have dishwasher detergent remaining in the soap cup after the end of a wash cycle, it often means water is not being directed into the detergent cup or that the water temperature is too low. Check the following: Check the spray arms for any blocked spray holes.
Hard Water Residue
If you have hard water, you'll usually find a white film of mineral deposits on your dishes after a wash cycle. Hard water deposits can also build up inside your machine, adding further mineral residue to dishes each time.
