Celia continually questions, protests, and rejects Evelyn's dogged pursuit of success regardless of the personal costs. She pushes Evelyn to live more authentically and challenges her to choose love over image and fame.
The novel's climax arrives when Evelyn frames Monique's father for a car wreck that Harry caused and that killed both men. She admits this to Monique, and in doing so, she reveals her most devastating lie, a lie that affected how Monique saw her father and his death for her entire life.
Harry and Evelyn promise to remain friends despite the messy business with the studio. After Harry leaves, Evelyn tells Celia she loves her, and they sleep together.
Robert Jamison
Celia's brother and Evelyn's seventh and final husband. They marry so that Evelyn can inherit Celia's estate after she dies.
